Microsoft Word Editing Practice

Below is the assignment for advisory--it contains the directions. READ THEM CAREFULLY!

This is the first paragraph of directions.  You will copy and paste all of this text into a Word document. A document is basically like a piece of paper that you type words and sentences in.  A short cut way to do that is to highlight all of this text.  Then: press [Ctrl] and the letter [c] on your keyboard at the same time.  This will COPY the text.  Then, open Microsoft word and press [Ctrl] and [v] at the same time to PASTE the words into your document.  You may know that you can also use your right mouse button to copy and paste.  Below you will find directions for what to do with the text to show that you can use the editing features of Microsoft Word.  You are allowed to ask your neighbor for help but you must do so QUIETLY or everybody will have to work on their own with no help :-(

this is the beginning of the assignment.i will not use capitals and spaces where they are needed—you will have to fix it.remember that every sentence should start with a capital and every "i" should also be capitalized.there should be two spaces after every end of sentence and one space after "mr."and "mrs." when you are writing a name like "mrs.bronkema".also, it is important that you use the [tab] key at the beginning of each paragraph; never use the space bar to indent a paragraph.go back and fix it!you might notice that this gets easier to read once you put in the capitals and spaces!if you notice that ive spelled anything incorectly, you should fix it.go through the document and fix all of the spaces, capitals, and mispelings right now!they should be easy to find because they will be underlined in red.

this new paragraph should also be indented with the tab key!never use the space bar to indent paragraphs.this paragraph tells you wat you need to do to save your documnt.let’s take a moment to save it now so that you won’t lose all of your hard work!it is very imprtant that you follow these steps carefully or you might lose all of the work youve done!you will go to the top right corner and click on the ‘file’ menu and then chose ‘save’.we need to be sure that you are saving in YOUR file.click on “My Documents” and find the file that has your user name in it. we are going to call this document “Editing Practice”.type that in the box that says ‘file name”. you always want to think of something that will tell you what the document is about so that it easy to find what you are looking for in your file.then, before you click SAVE, have the teacher come over and check to be sure that you are in the right spot.as you continue to work, save OFTEN!since you already gave your document a name, you won’t have to repeat that step.it will continue to save your new changes every time you click save.

this new paragraph should also be indented with the tab key!never use the space bar to indent paragraphs.did you also notice that all of the paragraphs have an extra space between them?i will be telling you some things to edit in this document.make this sentence in bold letters.make this sentence in italicized letters.italics will make the words look slanted.make this sentence underlined.change the color of this paragraph to any shade of green.change the font of this paragraph to another font that is EASY TO READ and has lower case and upper case letters (some fonts only have uppercase letters).

look! anther paragraph that needs to be indented with the [tab] key!i now want you to put your curser at the very top of the page.do this by clicking before the very first word.once you see your blinky cursor there, type your first and last names.then, click the [enter] key two times to leave some empty space after your name.make your name bold, italics, AND underlined.you may change the font and color of your name.your name should always be in the top right corner.do you know how to do it WITHOUT using the space bar?ask your neighbor for help if you don’t.next, highlight this whole paragraph and center it on the page.you may also change the font style to something that is different...but still easy to read with capital AND lower case letters.

if you finish early, you may add a paragraph to this document.write about your experiences with computers.do you use them a lot?what do you use computers for?do you have one at home?do you have the internet?are you a good typist?

we are going to add more to this document another day.be sure that you have been saving often and that the teacher has checked that you saved it correctly in your file.remember that when you save, you must change the box that says "my documents".it should say your user name instead.MAKE THE NAME OF THIS DOCUMENT "Editing Practice".
